Using a power point presentation and images from archives, I give a lecture about the city of Brest. The narration – becoming more and more absurd as it continues – connects the story of Brest with the legend of the fantastical city of Ys, and puts forwards symbols to take the place of suppressed memories and sensations.

The story is told through images, archival material and a mix of factual, mythological and philosophical narration. In Brest, suppressed memories live on in the water surrounding the city, slowly infiltrating the buildings, consequently leading to the slow dissolution of the city.

The form of an academic lecture is infiltrated by poetry and fiction.

BREST is part of an open series of performative city portraits.
